第２回 『SHRDLU』  1972年に当時マサチューセッツ工科大学(MIT)助教授であったTerry Winograd*1が開発した非常に有名な人工知能です。Lispという言語で実装されています。 これは普段私達が使う自然言語の意味を理解し実行する対話プログラムですが、自然言語の持つ曖昧さを取り除く事によって大きな成功を納めました。SHRDLUは積木の世界のみに限定して、次のように自然な会話をする事ができます。 Person: PICK UP A BIG RED BLOCK. (大きい赤のブロックをつかんで下さい。)
こうしてみるとほとんど、積み木で遊ぶ子供と変わりないように思いますが、決定的に異なる点があります。それはSHRDLUの積み木世界はコンピュータの中の世界だということです。
例えば、 四角錐の下のブロックを取る。という操作を命令する場合、人間なら実際に実行してみて上の四角錐が落ちることを学習することができますが、SHRDLUは四角錐が落ちることを知りようがありません。初期のSHRDLUは四角錐を宙に浮いたままにしてしまったようです。 つまり、人間の知識や知能のある部分は環境が担っているということです。最近はこのような身体性という問題が重要視され、初期のコンピュータ中心の研究から現在のロボット中心の研究へとトレンドが移ってきています。 では、知能を持つには外界との相互作用が絶対必要なのでしょうか？それは、SHRDLUの積み木世界に物理法則を組み込むことによって克服できそうです。実際それによって、先程の様な問題は克服できたようです。 しかし、現実の世界はさらに広く様々な現象が起こりますが、これら全てをコンピュータの中に再現するのは途方もない作業です。これが、一種のフレーム問題です。 結局、 知能を持つには体が必要である。という考えは広く認識されています。 以上の様な問題があることは確かですが、SHRDLUが偉大な人工知能であることには違いありません。以下のサイトにSHRDLUのソースコードが置かれています。私の環境では実行することができなかったのですがLispとJavaで書かれているので、もしかしたら簡単に移植ができるかもしれません。動作に成功したら、また記事を書きたいと思います。
